Industry Buying Guide
Russell Mineral Equipment Pty
Founded by Dr John Russell in 1985, Russell Mineral Equipment (RME) has
been the global leader in the design, manufacture, supply and servicing
of grinding mill relining technologies and services. Now, decades later, this
position has never been stronger.
Dr Russell recognised the critical relationship between the mill relining
activity and mine site profitability. Mill relining is the most specialised and
important task in the maintenance of a mineral concentrator. It dictates
shut down times, mill availability and utilisation, through-put, and therefore
mine site profitability. RME’s aspiration has always been to play its part in
improving the human condition by making metals available at lower cost.
The company achieves this goal by reducing concentrator downtime.
Since the introduction of the RME Mill Relining System in 1990, RME has
halved and then quartered traditional mill relining times. In addition, many
occupational health and safety issues associated with manual or poorly
mechanised relining have been eliminated.
The traditional relining of a mill begins with the extraction of the feed chute
by RUSSELL Feed Chute Transporter, replacing winches or heavy mobile
equipment and dangerous taut cables, saving hours at the threshold of a
reline. Once, feed chute extraction could take up half a day. The RUSSELL
Feed Chute Transporter sees this task reduced to fifteen minutes.
Worn Liner Removal is the next step in the mill relining path. Previous
hazardous worn liner removal methods included manual sledgehammering
and the use of battering rams and lifting slings. This step in the mill relining
path has been revolutionised through the innovations of THUNDERBOLT
Recoilless Hammers, T-MAG Moil Axis Guides and O-ZONE Worn Liner Lifting
Tools. Our external RUSSELL Elevating Platforms are favoured by the world’s
best mill relining crews for the ease of mill shell access that they provide,
halving the number of mill inching required during a reline.
The centrepiece of RME’s Mill Relining System is the RUSSELL Mill Relining
Machine. RME pioneered new liner placement in large grinding mills in
1992, allowing new liners to be lifted and easily placed in exact position
on the mill shell. Custom designed and manufactured for each application,
RME has a Mill Relining System solution for every mill type and size.
Service and Spares Support:
With Regional Service Centres spanning the globe, RME supports our
customers’ RME Mill Relining System assets through our dedicated team of
Customer Support Personnel, including Customer Support Coordinators
and Customer Support Technicians.
Addressing the total Mill relining problem and applying a total Mill relining
solution, sets Russell Mineral Equipment apart. Each element of the RME Mill
Relining System improves efficiency, reliability and safety in its own right,
enabling greater leverage of the mine site asset. Importantly, the sum of
the whole RME Mill Relining System combines to give greater value to each
element than the simple sum of those elements used in isolation. Russell
Mineral Equipment addresses the total Mill relining process and applies a
total Mill relining solution. RME’s Mill Relining System includes:
RUSSELL Mill Relining Machines
RUSSELL Mill Liner Handlers
RUSSELL Feed Chute Technologies
THUNDERBOLT Recoilless Hammers, THUNDERBOLT T-MAG Moil Axis
Guides, and THUNDERBOLT Suspension Methods
THUNDERBOLT SKYWAY Suspension and Guidance system for
O-ZONE Liner Lifting Tools
RME INSIDEOUT Technology
RUSSELL SAFETY Products.
RME INSIDEOUT Technology, RUSSELL SAFETY and THUNDERBOLT
SKYWAY are the current results of over two years’ dedicated research and
development by RME’s Technology Group. This represents a significant
expansion of RME’s suite of mill relining safety and performance
technologies. RME’s aim? To provide an even safer, more high performing
future for mineral concentrator operations and relining crews, by
removing all personnel from dangerous environments by using advanced
technologies; relining performed from outside the Mill.
RME has grown from being a very small company with just one employee
to one that today operates in 57 countries and employs over 320 personnel
