come together to form Downer Infrastructure. The Downer Group now
consists of three businesses – Downer Infrastructure, Downer Mining and
Downer Infrastructure is a $5 billion business that contributes around half
of Downer Group’s revenue and earnings before interest and tax. The new
division has work-in-hand of $8.4 billion (31 December 2011) and employs

Downer Infrastructure provides customers in Australasia with an integrated
consulting, engineering, contracting and asset management business
that establishes the platform for the division to become the largest asset
management services business in Australasia.
Downer provides integrated solutions to support the critical infrastructure
needs of our customers in the core markets of Minerals and Metals, Oil
and Gas, Power, Transport Infrastructure, Water, Communications, Social

For Minerals and Metals and Oil and Gas customers, we offer
comprehensive engineering and construction services that support the

As one of the largest producers and users of asphalt in Australia, we own
and operate more than 30 asphalt plants which produce and supply nearly
two million tonnes of asphalt each year.
Downer’s commitment to Zero Harm and continuous product
development has resulted in three unique bitumen solutions: Recycled
Asphalt (RAP), Warm Asphalt Mix (WAM) and the new Suspended Fibre
Microsurfacing SFT offers increased flexibility and tensile strength over
standard microsurfacing applications. In conjunction with Flexitex PMB
emulsion technology, SFT provides the highest values for pavement
flexibility of any known thin surfacing application.
WAM uses a specialised water injection process that allows us to produce
WAM at 40-50°C lower than standard hot mix asphalt. The use of EcoPhalt
WAM results in approximately a 30% reduction in energy use and up to an
estimated 35% reduction in carbon emissions.
