As one of the largest producers and users of asphalt in Australia, we own
and operate more than 30 asphalt plants which produce and supply nearly
two million tonnes of asphalt each year.
Downer’s commitment to Zero Harm and continuous product
development has resulted in three unique bitumen solutions: Recycled
Asphalt (RAP), Warm Asphalt Mix (WAM) and the new Suspended Fibre
Microsurfacing SFT offers increased flexibility and tensile strength over
standard microsurfacing applications. In conjunction with Flexitex PMB
emulsion technology, SFT provides the highest values for pavement
flexibility of any known thin surfacing application.
WAM uses a specialised water injection process that allows us to produce
WAM at 40–50 degrees Celsius lower than standard hot mix asphalt. The use
of EcoPhalt WAM results in approximately a 30 per cent reduction in energy
